Cleaning Your Drums
When it comes to drum care, one of the most important things is to make sure you clean your drum set. Here at Drum World in Pittsburgh, PA., we have everything you need to keep your drum set looking brand new, including replacement hardware. The three parts to your drum set are the hardware (including hoops), shells, and cymbals. Here are some tips on how to practice good drum care, which is pretty inexpensive and easy to do.
Cleaning Your Drum Hardware And Hoops
The hoops and the hardware in your drum set will need to be cleaned to keep them in good condition. To start with, you can use a mix of three quarters tap water and one quarter vinegar in a spray bottle. Spray it onto the chrome of the hoops and hardware and then polish them with a soft cloth, which can be as simple as an old rag. If the vinegar and water mix doesn’t seem to do the trick, or if you have rust on the chrome, you can use aluminum foil to rub it away. Simply take a piece of foil and steadily rub the hardware that is dirty or rusted, removing the hoop if you want to get it thoroughly clean.
Cleaning Your Drum Shells
Drum care for the shells is extremely simple. All you really need for this task is that same vinegar with water mix and a clean soft cloth. Just like with the hardware, the cloth can be a basic rag that happens to be lying around. Start by spraying the mix onto the shell, wiping it gently until it’s clean, and then if there’s any kind of build-up just rub a little more to get the shell clean.
Cleaning Your Cymbals
The final part of your drum set that you’ll be cleaning is the cymbals. This is the most time-consuming part of drum care, and takes the most effort. The best way to bring back the shine of your cymbals is by using a either a specially made cymbal cleaner or a basic brass cleaner such as Brasso, following the directions to restore to its previous luster. It will take a while, but if you’d like shiny cymbals, this will do the trick.
Overall, caring for your drum set is easy and will keep it looking new for a long time.
