The Dos And Don'ts Of a Kitchen Remodel
Sometimes, you just need to start fresh. With spring around the corner, now is a great time to start thinking about possible home remodeling ideas.
For many, the most common job is a kitchem remodeling. However, before you start knocking down walls and ripping up the floor, it is important to have a firm idea of what you want and how you will achieve it. Will this be a small DIY project or will your kitchem remodeling require the help of a contractor? Big or small, there are a number of things to consider. Allow us to share a few do’s and don’ts to home remodeling…
DO:
• Start small. While it may be easy to think up some big elaborate plan, executing is not going to be as simple—or inexpensive. Think about what you want done first. New countertops? New tile flooring? Price out a smaller project and work your way up!
• Hire a professional. Sure, painting may be a great do-it-yourself project to tackle. Knocking down a wall or two? Not so much! It is essential for you to turn to the pros for major projects. The last thing you need is a bigger mess than before!
• Budget your money. Remodeling your kitchen can be costly, depending on the size of the project. Before you make any moves, shop around for quotes. See what will work within your budget and what will not. You may have to prioritize what you want with what you can actually spend.
• Bring sunlight into your home. Looking for a change that will brighten up the place? Consider adding a sunroom off to the side of your kitchen. This will not only make the space seem larger, but it appealing to future buyers.
DON’T:
• Rush your kitchem remodeling. The last thing you want is a “hack job” because you rushed the remodeling along. Home remodeling is not an overnight process—it is a gradual change! To achieve the best work possible, take your time in everything you do—from choosing materials to hiring the right contractor for the job.
• Make renovations with no value. It is important for you to know which features are going to add value to your home versus those that are only going to cost you. You may want to take a look at other homes in your neighborhoods beforehand to get a better idea of what your property is valued at. Use neighborhood standards as your guide.
• Personalize everything. Unless you plan on spending your life in this home, do not over-personalize your living space. It is important to stay “true” to your home’s look and feel. If your home has a country feel, do not choose to add contemporary features. It is important that you not only please yourself, but potential buyers in the future.
